Applications for the 2024 Outstanding Student Chapter Contest have been accepted and ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø of America received applications from exceptional Student Chapters across the country! This year, our Outstanding Student Chapter Awards were broken up into four categories for student chapters to be awarded for exemplary demonstration of the ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø of America tenants of Skill, Responsibility & Integrity. Four applications in particular stood out from the others and ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø of America is happy to announce the winners:

Impact Award: ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter at California State University—Chico

The ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter Impact Award honors chapters that demonstrate a profound influence on their members, their community, and the industry throughout the academic year. This award recognizes outstanding efforts in organizing networking events, fundraising initiatives, and active participation in construction competitions.

California State University, Chico’s ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter stands out for its commitment to fostering student engagement in the construction industry. The chapter organizes and hosts key events such as job walks and fall kickoff meetings, providing students with invaluable hands-on experience and industry insight. By connecting with both the Delta/Sierra and Shasta/Eureka ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Districts in California, the Chico chapter has helped students stay informed on the latest construction laws, legislation, and regional industry developments. These collaborations have proven essential in equipping future construction professionals with the knowledge and connections necessary for success in Northern California's dynamic construction landscape.

Resilient/Emerging Student Chapter Award: ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock

The New and Emerging Outstanding Student Chapter Award recognizes an ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter that has shown exceptional growth in membership and engagement within its first three years of operation.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter, established in 2022, has been recognized for its strong partnerships with the local ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø chapter and its increased involvement in the construction industry. The chapter has grown steadily by actively engaging with students through department presentations and promoting their organization via university marquees. Student officers benefit from mentorship by Arkansas ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø CLC liaisons and UA Little Rock faculty advisors, guiding them in the organization of monthly meetings, volunteer opportunities, and networking events throughout the academic year. In addition to these activities, the chapter participates annually in community service projects, professional development events, recruiting efforts, and ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø-related social gatherings. The chapter’s growth and contributions to the construction community in such a short period make them a standout example of student chapter success.

Community Service Award: Oklahoma State University ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter

Oklahoma State University’s ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter is being recognized for their remarkable work on the home of OSU staff member, Brandi. After spending her savings on medical bills, Brandi was unable to make necessary repairs to her home. The OSU ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter members stepped in to help, contributing over 1,000 hours of labor to repair her home. Utilizing the construction management skills they’ve developed through their program, the students worked diligently to restore Brandi’s home. The project also benefited from the support of the local ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Chapter, who offered guidance and connected the students with local suppliers to supplement the repairs. Through this collaborative effort, the students not only honed their skills but made a significant, positive impact on their community.

Construction Management Skills Award: Kansas State University ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter

Kansas State University’s ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter is being honored for their exceptional work on the Seaton 52 Project, a $60,000 renovation of a collaborative space within Seaton Hall at KSU. The chapter members played a pivotal role in the project by creating preliminary estimates and developing project schedules to ensure the renovation stayed on track and within budget. Kansas State ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø students also identified the scope of work and worked alongside the construction division of Kansas State Facilities to transform the space into a multipurpose area for students and professors in the Construction Science Department. This hands-on project showcased the students’ ability to blend academic knowledge with practical construction management skills.

The Kansas State University ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Student Chapter exemplifies outstanding proficiency in construction management skills, as demonstrated through their impactful project with T&M Concrete. Partnering with local contractors, they successfully constructed a 1,600 linear foot concrete sidewalk for Northview Elementary School, involving over 100 cubic yards of concrete poured across five Saturdays with the participation of 56 students. Their adept project scheduling, collaboration with industry partners, and effective communication underscore their mastery of construction management principles. Through innovative approaches like leveraging faculty support for increased workforce participation, they showcased leadership and problem-solving abilities. Their commitment to honing technical and soft skills, coupled with strong industry relationships, positions them as deserving recipients of the ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Construction Management Skills Award.

Again, congratulations to the winners of the ´ó·¢¿ìÈý¹ÙÍø Outstanding Student Chapter Contest! It is never too early to start planning for the 2025 Outstanding Student Chapter contest.  Please look out for the Student Chapter application to be released by July 2025.
